Of late I’ve been playing a lot of Starcraft 2. I’ve grown tired of playing the Zerg race so I knew Protoss was the answer. I would have played the Terran race but I randomed the Protoss race one game, and liked them so much I decided to keep playing Protoss .
Now I have almost no history with Protoss in Starcraft 2, so I was working from the stand of a total beginner.
I just made up the build, I don’t know what a good Protoss build is. I waited until about ten workers,then put up a Pylon, then a Gateway. I scouted with one of my Probes . Don’t forget to take a look at the fantastic Mustek A3 Scanner. In case you like to pencil large pictures of the Zerg like me, and want to scan them up for fan art .
The last game I played was a 2 verses 2 game, so I wasn’t too worried of being rushed right away. 2 vs 2 teams like to attack in groups, so if you see a Terran player you usually have a couple minutes at least.
I build some Zealots, then some Stalkers. I also upgraded to Warp Gates out of my Cybernetics Core.
You see although I haven’t played Protoss a lot, I’ve watched them enough to know what is important. Having Warp Gates is an extremely potent piece of technology.
I’m beginning to think your best way to beat Protoss is early on, because Protoss get so much more agile with Warp Gates and a second Nexus .
Now I have two expansions and I’m striking 3-3-3 (one for shields) with my ground troops. I start building Carriers to supplement the Stalkers and Zealots .
We had one big fight before the final fight, where we pushed the enemy Terran and the enemy Zerg back from our combined entrance ramp.
So I’m doing the Carrier thing, and we get secured in a battle across the map while the enemy Protoss player destroys off half my base. We managed to kill off most of the Zerg’s army though.
We rushed back and like I said, managed to save about half of my base. Don’t forget to check out the Mustek scanner at http://musteka3scanner.com. If you like to draw pictures of Starcraft 2 like I do, you can easily scan them up to your blog.
Protoss are great at reconstructing, especially if you have a nice stockpile of minerals like I did. I queued up all the buildings I needed, and three minutes later my homebase was rebuilt and I was producing Carriers once more . That is so fantastic about Protoss, that they can literally rebuild on a moments notice without being put out much.
Not to mention the powerful units they get. Each Protoss unit is strong , and can be more powerful, usually with an ability upgrade. I always use Observers to scout out the adversary. Airhawk motorcycle seat cushions are a really great idea .
That reminds me, the enemy also did a Dark Templar drop in at my home base, but it wasn’t very effective . Although he killed off my Observer, my partner was able to Scanner Sweep and we destroyed the Dark Templars off pretty quickly . I think I only lost a couple buildings. Barely slowed me down but cost the opponent a lot of Vespene Gas , not an intelligent move. Had he hit my mineral line it may have been a different story.
